English rock duo Royal Blood sold nearly 66,000 units to debut atop the U.K. album chart yesterday (Aug. 31) with their self-titled Warner Bros./Warner Music album. French-Israeli duo Lilly Wood entered the singles chart at No. 1 with German DJ-producer Robin Schulz’s remix of their 2010 track “Prayer In C” (Atlantic/Warner).
At the top of the chart, Royal Blood’s triumphant entry is, reports the Official Charts Company, the highest sales total for a rock debut since Noel Gallagher’s “High Flying Birds” in 2011. Ed Sheeran’s X (Asylum/Warner Music) held at No. 2 as Ariana Grande’s “My Everything” (Republic/Universal) opened at No. 3. Musical theater quintet Collabro’s “Stars” (Syco Music/Sony) fell to No. 4 after debuting at the top last week.
The Lilly Wood single has been a major chart single across much of Europe and gives Schulz his second U.K. No. 1 as a remixer, following Mr. Probz’ “Waves” (Left Lane Recordings). The OCC reports that “Prayer In C” was streamed more than 700,000 times in the chart week, 8% of its combined chart figure.
